Copresco

Copresco Celebrates Its 15th Year In The Digital Printing Business.

The company was founded on October 19, 1987 as Copies Overnight by Steve Johnson who believed that the future for commercial printing was digital technology. He formed an organization specializing in the fast turnaround printing and distribution of publications, books and manuals.

Today, Copresco is recognized as a national leader in digital technology and on-demand printing.

Mission Impossible Assignments

Since its inception, Copresco has marketed its exceptionally fast turnaround time and ability to routinely handle extraordinary “Mission Impossible” jobs. The company pursues these large, challenging projects. It has the professional staff, graphic arts skills and technical tools to accomplish tasks that are often impossible for others. “That's the reason we can guarantee 250,000 impressions the next business day for any customer...with no rush charges,” says Copresco president Steve Johnson. It is also the reason why many customers in the printing trade with their own Docutech digital printing systems still rely on the firm to handle their tougher jobs.

Expanding in a Downturn

While the past year two years been a tough period for many firms in the digital printing industry, Copresco continues to update and expand its technology and knowledge base, while adding new equipment to meet growing customer demands. “Within the last 18 months, we have installed a powerful saddle binding system, coil binding equipment and two digital color presses,” Johnson says.

Installation of the Xerox Docucolor 2060 digital color press followed a unique customer survey. Copresco asked customers to compare the quality of two company newsletters and vote for the press they believe produced the best color. One newsletter version was printed on the Docucolor; the other on a competitive system.

The survey program was honored with an APEX 2002 Grand Award for communications effectiveness and excellence. The Grand Award was one of only five presented in the campaigns, programs and plans category. The international competition attracted 5,900 entries.

In 2001, the digital printer won a Grand Award for its informative and user-friendly corporate website and has collected nine additional APEX Awards of Excellence for the website and the firm’s monthly newsletter, technical bulletin series and overall marketing communications program.

Professional Recognition

Copresco has also won an impressive array of awards and honors from customers, the graphic arts industry and professional organizations. Recent achievements include Premier Print Awards for printing excellence from the Printing Industries of America, awards for quality and sales growth from graphic arts industry magazines, and recognition as the top digital printer and top digital color printer in North America.

Technical Expertise

Company executives are frequently quoted as technical experts in local and national media. “We receive regular requests for technical information and assistance from diverse groups, including customers, suppliers, trade groups and the U.S. Government Printing Office,” Johnson explains.

Plant facilities

In May 1999, the company moved into a new 14,000 sq. ft. facility in Carol Stream which offers nearly three times the space of the previous plant. Continued growth of digital on-demand printing services dictated the company’s fifth move in 12 years.

The modern building houses Copresco’s five Docutechs and Docucolor digital presses, a full-service bindery, warehousing and shipping facilities, and offices.

A New Name

The company name was changed to Copresco in November 1999. “When we started the company in 1987, Copies Overnight was a descriptive name,” Johnson says. “It proclaimed our dedication to exceptionally fast service and our ability to handle challenging jobs. But, we stopped making copies after the purchase of our first Docutech in 1990 and began to integrate a whole new digital printing system.”

Copresco maintains a complete digital production stream in producing millions of impressions for a broad spectrum of clients in the general business, governmental, printing trade, professional, technical and institutional fields.

Future Commitment

As a national leader in its industry, Copresco is committed to finding better, faster and more efficient ways to manage its clients’ publications data. “Our goal is to keep Copresco on the cutting edge of digital technology and on-demand printing. Although our name is relatively new, we remain strongly committed to carrying on our tradition of exceptional quality, extremely fast turnaround and continual innovation in digital on-demand technology,” Johnson concludes.
